Two robots ran the 100-meter sprint faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second world record. A Tiangong Ultra robot, developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, finished in 9.39 seconds, while Honor’s Lightning robot finished at 9.47 seconds.
On Saturday, two robots ran faster than Usain Bolt's 9.58-second world record in the 100-meter sprint. That was a sharp improvement from 2025, when the winning robot's time was more than 20 seconds. Braking was an issue, as the machines slammed into a thick mat that organisers placed several metres after the finish line.
A humanoid robot has beaten Usain Bolt's 100-meter sprint record at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, China on Saturday. The robot, made by Beijing-based X-Humanoid, was able to run the 109 yards in 9.39 seconds, beating the 2009 record of 9.58 seconds set by the Jamaican athlete.
Chinese smartphone maker Honor’s self-developed humanoid robot “Lightning“ ran 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, beating the human world record, China’s state broadcaster reported on Saturday. The humanoid reached a peak speed of 14.5 meters per second during a preparatory test event for the second World Humanoid Robot Games beginning on Saturday.
During the World Robot Games, a bipedal robot lost control and crashed, sparking viral social media reactions.
BEIJING, Aug 22 (Reuters) - It’s been called the Robot Olympics. But unlike the human Olympics, Team China is collecting almost all the medals. Over the past decade, robotic competitions in China have provided a window into the advances of a now-surging sector – and the importance of its success as a strategic industry singled out by President Xi Jinping.
Robots are just PCs that can walk around, and these days they're doing a lot more than just going for a stroll. Christopher Livingston doesn't trust them, not one bit, and is reporting on their movements monthly—and this month, Lincoln Carpenter did it, too.
China's biggest robot olympics kicks off as 2,056 robots compete in sports and work tasks at the World Humanoid Robot Games.
